About the event

This WoodWorks jobsite tour offers an on-site look at the under-construction UC Riverside SoCal OASIS Park facility in Riverside, California. Led by Hamid Kaboli and members of the project team, the session examines how cross-laminated timber and glulam are integrated into the building lobby, co-working spaces, and conference rooms. Attendees will study construction sequencing, trade coordination, fire-resistance detailing, code compliance, and structural connections between wood and non-wood systems. The event delivers field insights into material selection and execution strategies for hybrid mass timber higher education and research spaces.

What you’ll learn

  • Discuss typical construction practices for mass timber projects, including construction sequencing, site safety considerations, installation efficiency, and coordination with follow-on trades.
  • Highlight structural and architectural uses of CLT and glulam through an in-person tour of an under-construction higher education and research facility, including exposed wood in shared lobby, co-working, and conference spaces.
  • Describe mass timber connection and detailing strategies used to support code-compliant design, structural performance, fire-resistance considerations, and coordination between wood and non-wood structural systems.
  • Explain how owners, architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and installers coordinate during project development to achieve successful mass timber implementation in a hybrid building.
