About the event

This regional online technical session examines code-compliant and constructible fire-resistance details for wood-frame structures. Led by structural engineer Jason Bahr of WoodWorks, the presentation targets the complex intersections where structural wood framing meets fire protection elements. Participants will review methods for determining fire ratings and examine interior rated assemblies, including firewalls, fire barriers, and fire partitions. Detailed topics include assembly continuity, structural stability, allowable penetrations, requirements for horizontal assemblies, and encasement strategies for individual beams and columns, providing practical guidance for navigating building code standards in modern wood construction.

What you’ll learn

  • Review methods for determining fire-resistance ratings.
  • Discuss detailing aspects of fire resistance for firewalls, fire barriers and fire partitions, including material and assembly options, continuity, structural stability, and penetrations.
  • Explore requirements for horizontal assemblies.
  • Understand requirements for individual encasement of beams and columns.

Attendance notes

  • WoodWorks will send each attendee a certificate of completion within 2 weeks via email.
  • Please note that to receive a certificate, attendees must stay for the duration of the event.
