This WoodWorks site tour offers an in-person exploration of the all-mass timber South San Francisco Wellness Center, highlighting how mass timber functions within a healthcare environment. Led by structural engineer Chelsea Drenick, the walking tour examines the building structural system, including glue-laminated timber columns and beams paired with cross-laminated timber floor plates. Participants will review detailing methods, code-compliant connection techniques, fire resistance approaches, and construction considerations for exposed wood. The discussion covers material selection criteria and multi-disciplinary collaboration across the design, fabrication, and building teams.
