About the event

This regional online seminar from WoodWorks covers fire-resistant design and detailing for wood-frame buildings. Led by WoodWorks engineer Jessica Scarlett, the session focuses on interior fire-rated assemblies, including firewalls, fire barriers, and fire partitions. Participants will examine methods for determining fire-resistance ratings, maintaining rating continuity, addressing structural stability, and handling penetrations. The presentation also reviews code requirements for horizontal assemblies, individual encasements for beams and columns, and allowable uses of wood framing in rated systems. Attendees can earn continuing education credits upon staying for the entire session.

What you’ll learn

  • Review methods for determining fire-resistance ratings.
  • Discuss detailing aspects of fire resistance for firewalls, fire barriers and fire partitions, including material and assembly options, continuity, structural stability, and penetrations.
  • Explore requirements for horizontal assemblies.
  • Understand requirements for individual encasement of beams and columns.
