Webinar: ZNE School Retrofit Readiness

The Webinar: ZNE School Retrofit Readiness will take place on September 28th, online 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST.

This webinar will share the findings of a recent study, commissioned by the California Public Utilities Commission and conducted by NBI, that identifies opportunities for K-14 schools to achieve a zero net energy (ZNE) performance. NBI investigated decision-making patterns and funding practices surrounding existing California public school and community college buildings. The research also includes a technical analysis that uncovers what types of upgrades and conditions may have the greatest impact on moving towards ZNE in the school sector.

California is a national leader in zero net energy (ZNE) projects, and schools are spotlighting the pathway to this low energy future with visible new construction projects across the state. Still, none of the existing 1,025 public schools or 72 community colleges in California have been retrofitted to fully achieve ZNE performance. On behalf of the California Public Utilities Commission, NBI and its partner, Madison Engineering, have conducted research to examine barriers to ZNE in existing school buildings and identify opportunities that will spur successful retrofit projects.
