About the event

This regional online seminar provides structural engineers with practical guidance on the structural design of four-to-six-story multi-family wood buildings. The presentation moves beyond standard code provisions to examine structural analysis and detailing for both gravity and lateral systems. Key topics include wood shrinkage causes and mitigation, floor vibration design checks, and stacked bearing wall loads. Instruction also covers fire-retardant-treated wood in Type III exterior assemblies, diaphragm flexibility, shear wall configurations, and lateral displacement checks for multi-story wood-frame structures.

What you’ll learn

  • Discuss wood shrinkage potential and causes, identify shrinkage effects on structural and non-structural components, and review detailing best practices to minimize the effects of shrinkage
  • Highlight structural implications of utilizing fire retardant-treated wood in exterior wall assemblies of Type III construction
  • Review floor vibration design checks and associated criteria for residential occupancies in wood-frame construction
  • Explain important lateral engineering issues such as diaphragm flexibility, shear wall configuration options and design, and load path continuity that must be considered to successfully design a mid-rise wood structure

Attendance notes

WoodWorks will send each attendee a certificate of completion within 2 weeks via email. Attendees must stay for the duration of the event to receive a certificate.
