Mass Timber Tour: Bush Middle School

This regional jobsite tour examines the construction of Bush Middle School, a two-story, 24,000-square-foot educational project in Seattle. Led by WoodWorks regional director Michael Muller alongside project team members, the session highlights the integration of cross-laminated timber panels and glulam framing to deliver a sustainable, biophilic environment. Participants will walk through active classroom, dining, office, and administrative spaces to investigate connection detailing, fire-resistance strategies, and structural capacity requirements. The event emphasizes construction efficiency, trade coordination, and safety best practices, offering direct dialogue regarding project development decisions from initial design through execution.

What you’ll learn

  • Discuss typical construction practices for mass timber projects, including safety best practices, installation efficiency, and coordination with follow-on trades.
  • Highlight a variety of structural and architectural uses of CLT and glulam through an in-person tour of an under-construction project, highlighting the sustainable and biophilic benefits of wood for occupants and visitors.
