About the event

This educational session and building tour examines mass timber implementation in educational facilities. The program begins with a technical presentation examining driver dynamics across the school construction market, structural strategies for large spans in gymnasiums and cafeterias, fire performance, acoustics, and International Building Code provisions governing Types III, IV, and V construction. Following the lecture, participants tour Founders Hall at the University of Washington Foster School of Business. Project team members guide the walk through the five-story hybrid facility, demonstrating post and beam framing, cross-laminated timber decking, and practical detailing approaches.
