The Zero Net Energy Workshop and Building Tour will take place on April 6th, 2015 in Sacramento, California. California has set ambitious goals for buildings to achieve Zero Net Energy (ZNE) by 2020 and 2030. This Workshop will focus on advancing policies and practices, learning about highly efficient buildings, getting the tools one needs to educate stakeholders, and obtaining strategies to integrate coming requirements into policies and plans.
This Workshop will be facilitated by the New Buildings Institute. The intention is to raise general awareness about concepts of zero net energy buildings and provide specific tools and strategies that attendees can take back and apply to integrate ZNE into their policies, plans and building projects. The workshop program will include the following: An introduction to California’s goals for zero net energy by 2030;
overview of recent research data on national market trends; Case study presentations that demonstrate the feasibility of achieving zero net energy performance goals in buildings, including lessons learned; Review and discussion of available tools that can be applied to planning, financing, design, operations, outreach and education about ZNE; Small working sessions with supporting training materials that can help with developing zero energy goals, targets and strategic planning to advance ZNE policy and delivery goals for public building pilots and portfolios; and Optional building energy tour of the new 16 Powerhouse mixed-use project.
