The Webinar: The Perspectives on the Cost of ZNE Retrofits will take place on November 29th, 2018 in Portland, Oregon, US. The path to Zero Net Energy (ZNE) school retrofits can be a daunting one. Some issues may seem overwhelming. Teams looking to implement ZNE often ask questions like where do I start? How do you pay for it? Learn from two “early adopter” school districts as they highlight their respective approaches to ZNE and describe the cost analysis that support their decisions.
San Francisco Unified has completed their first year on the path to ZNE and will address lessons learned on eight retrofit projects with a focus on how they estimate costs and savings over the long term. Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will then share a high level ZNE analysis on their schools. A recent study by LAUSD looked at cost comparisons between new construction and existing schools sites. Using real examples undergoing energy efficiency measures and major modernizations, LAUSD will share some of recommendations to reduce existing building EUIs cost effectively. In addition, a representative from the Investor Owned Utilities will discuss the incremental costs and lessons learned from the nine Prop 39 ZNE school retrofit pilot projects. They will outline the importance developing project champions, iterative budgeting and cost estimates plus examples of research conducive to implement these projects.
Presenters include:
Nik Kaestner from San Francisco Unified School District
Christos Chrysiliou from Los Angeles Unified School District
