Heritage 2014, the 4th International Conference on Heritage and Sustainable Development will take place on July 22 – 25 in Guimaraes, Portugal. The conference aims to address the relationships between different forms and kinds of heritage and the framework of sustainable development concepts. The four dimensions of sustainable development (environment, economics, society and culture) will be the pillars of this event, defining a singular approach on how to deal with the specific subject of heritage sustainability. Heritage preservation is constantly facing new and complex problems. Degradation of Heritage sites is not just a result of materials aging or environmental actions anymore. Factors such as global and local pollution, climate change, poverty, religion, tourism, commodification, ideologies and war (among others) impact them as well and play an important role in defining new approaches to and concerns and visions about heritage preservation and development.
